In San Antonio, Texas, Whataburger is a privately held, regional fast food restaurant chain specializing in hamburgers. First opened in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1950, the company was founded by Harmon Dobson and Paul Burton. As of 2019, the chain was still owned by the Dobsons, though they still hold a small stake.
Over 670 stores are located in Texas and more than 150 are located in New Mexico, Arizona, and the southern United States, of which 126 are franchised.
The orange-and-white-striped roofs of Whataburger’s classic A-framed buildings have been known for many years. It is scheduled to be demolished in 2019 and replaced with a “more modern” building. Odessa, Texas, became the first A-frame restaurant in 1912.

The story behind the Whataburger logo
Harmon founded his burger joint with the goal of making it stand out from the crowd. To build the temporary structure, Harmon attached a gable to two steel legs and utilized a gable to create the letter “W” instead of using a single-storied mobile container. Having been a pilot, he also had experience developing radio towers that were visible.
In order to enhance radio tower visibility, some of them are painted white and orange with alternate bands. Because he used colors that resemble those of radio towers, a radio tower erected miles away will be able to see his restaurant. The colors on the packaging even match those on the original. At the restaurant, a flying-looking version of the ‘W’ has been used since 1972.
What allegedly happened when Wonder Woman stole the logo from Whataburger logo
In 1985, DC Comics launched Wonder Woman’s original logo, which was very similar to Whataburger’s, according to the eater. However, Whataburger did not feel the need to take up any issue with DC Comics. If the restaurant had foreseen that Wonder Woman was going to be used to sell beverages, bubble gum, cookies, and cake decorations, it should have brought a case against DC Comics.
DC Comics is now venturing into the food industry with the Wonder Woman logo that barely resembles the current Whataburger logo. Whataburger now sees how this can affect their business since they now have a celebrity for their restaurant. As a result, they set up a friendly discussion with DC Comics to come up with an acceptable agreement. Taking Whataburger to court could go in either direction and maybe the company does not want to lose its long-held logo. The similarities between the two logos were probably noticed by customers a long time ago, and they probably understand how to tell them apart by now, so Whataburger shouldn’t worry too much.
A new rewards program and app are in the works at Whataburger
For every five visits to a Whataburger restaurant, customers are able to claim one free reward. You will receive a free Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit or Taquito with Cheese – both served during late-night and early-morning hours from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. Each guest may also select any flavor of a small, 16-ounce shake during these hours. The app shows users rewards barcodes for scanning at the register or drive-thru, regardless of whether they use cash, credit card, or mobile payment.
We created our mobile app to make it easier for our customers to live their lives. Modern digital technologies are all about connectivity and efficiency. We believe our customers will particularly enjoy earning free food with our Whataburger app since it boasts a rewards program. Rob Rodriguez, SVP of Restaurants, said that the move presents a great opportunity to improve customer service.
In addition to debit/credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Whataburger gift cards, whataburger.com users can add funds to their accounts using the app’s convenient mobile payment system. When using the app, customers are able to manage their payment options, reload their funds, and pay for their Whataburger orders.
Among its other features, the Whataburger rewards app includes access to the company’s full menu, nutritional and allergy information, and a restaurant locator. The Facebook app, Google Plus, and email accounts are all accepted options for registering. Some features of the app can only be accessed if you register, but registration isn’t required to view it.
With Whataburger’s new mobile app, you can get free food as a reward
Whataburger developed our mobile app to make our customers’ lives a little more convenient in today’s digital world. Rob Rodriguez, the chain’s senior vice president of Restaurants, said the move gives the chain a great chance to engage customers in a new, different way.
Each time a customer visits a Whataburger restaurant five times, they receive one free food item.
Rodriguez said, “Our new rewards program allows us to show our appreciation to our loyal fans through the Whataburger app, and we think our customers will especially love earning free food.”
Some of Whataburger’s favorite breakfast items are included in the rewards program, such as Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits and Taquitos with cheese and filling of your choice. Breakfast hours are from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m.
Hopefully, you didn’t miss their free breakfast. As well as its regular menu items, Whataburger offers medium fries, a Cinnamon Roll, and a 16-ounce shake in the flavor of your choice.
By paying for their purchases using cash or credit cards, the app users can earn rewards points. For faster checkout, users can pay and order through the app, which will be available in late 2017. With this new payment form, you can load and reload an account from $15 to $200 as you would with a gift card.
The app can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store or Google Play for free, which gives customers rewards when they visit Whataburger.
